The city is risen from the ashes of the past four days that consumed more than 20,000 hectares of forests, while the flames are still a problem on the island of Evia and the other at the summit of Mount Kitharonas, west of the capital helena.

The outbreaks of the devastating weekend fire in the northeastern part of Athens are virtually extinct, but a huge roadblock is on alert for the possible reactivation of the flames in the wind.

The good news is also on atmospheric conditions, with the gentle winds in recent days, which caused the flames spread to be more virulent reaching 15 kilometers from downtown.

Sources reported that firefighters declared the fire for four days in the town of Karistos, on the island of Evia, east of Athens, “is developing at a great height”, although not currently threatened inhabited villages. From early hours of the morning working in the area two tanker planes and two helicopters, supported by 30 firefighters.

Throughout Greece, according to satellite data from the European Union since the beginning of summer have burned 31,000 hectares, of which 20,000 were burnt by large fires developed on Saturday.

The fire on Mount Kitharonas, 60 miles west of Athens, is “developing”, but no threat for the moment at the adjacent spa Germeno Porto, whose population rose overnight but on edge, ready to be evacuated by sea . There are currently deployed four helicopters and 200 firefighters and soldiers.

According to a preliminary assessment, fire north of Athens that broke out last Friday have swept between 150 and 200 square kilometers of forest, scrub and farmland. At least 150 homes were severely damaged or were destroyed.

Greece had asked for help to fight the fire. Spain with two planes, France, Italy, Turkey or Cyprus answered the call. In addition to hundreds of firefighters and soldiers, hundreds of people, especially neighbors stayed to fight the flames and save their properties. Fortunately there is no fatality is regrettable.
